ITEST VC (vancomycin+colistin)
for the selective cultivation of Neisseria meningitidis
Purpose and usage:
VC diagnostic discs serve to selective cultivation of Neisseria meningitidis in primary culture.
Principle:
The non selective medium becomes partially selective in the place of diffusion of antibiotics (vancomycin and colistin) which inhibits the growth of other microorganisms.
Technique:
Inoculate blood agar with a swab or other specimen.
Streak the material over the surface by the usual way. Put VC disc by aseptic technique on the surface of the blood agar and incubate for 24 hours at 37°C.
Evaluation:
Bacterial colonies growing in the diffusion zone of antibiotics can be considered as N. meningitidis.
Warning:
1. VC discs are designed for laboratory use only.
2. Discs should be stored in a dark place at +4°C and should not be used beyond the expiration date shown on the packing.
